Tex-Mex cuisine (Tex-Mex) is a fusion of Mexican and American cuisine, particularly the cuisine of the southern US, where many American settlers from Texas originated. Classic elements of Tex-Mex cuisine include chili con carne and dishes such as tacos, burritos, and nachos, which, despite their Mexican roots, are usually American products. The name Tex-Mex originates from the 19th-century Texas Mexican Railway, designated by this acronym in contemporary railway schedules.
