The Chinese Restaurant "Mao" appeared on the culinary map of Warsaw at the end of 2017. This modern and spacious establishment, differing in style from traditional Chinese restaurants, is enjoying increasing popularity among both Warsaw residents and foreign visitors, including Chinese.
The heart of the restaurant is chef Jurek Xiao Dong, born in Beijing in 1964. A passionate cook since childhood, he graduated from the best culinary school in Beijing and has worked in the finest restaurants in China, including the prestigious Restaurant Fangshan, established in 1925 and once favored by the Emperor of China.
He came to Poland 21 years ago as one of the first Chinese chefs to work at the Imperial Palace restaurant. He has successfully cooked for ministers, ambassadors, and prime ministers of China who have visited Poland. This is why Mao is becoming one of the most popular places among Chinese residents of Warsaw.
The chef assembled his team based on experienced chefs from China who have spent their lives in Poland. His desire to create a modern space in Warsaw offering authentic Chinese flavors led to the kitchen being equipped with specially imported Chinese equipment, and the dishes are prepared using the highest quality Chinese ingredients. To ensure a healthy and natural flavor, monosodium glutamate, often found in oriental cuisine, has been eliminated. Dishes are served on modern porcelain designed by young Chinese artists.
The menu features a wide selection of appetizers. It includes both cold starters – pickled cucumber, shredded beef, and dried tofu – and hot dishes – fried wonton flowers and duck wings. Our soups are based on duck broth and pork broth, all of which are served with duck, beef, or pork, soy noodles, pak choi, Asian basil, shitake coriander, mollets, nuts, sesame seeds, or goji berries. We prepare fresh steamed dumplings daily in several flavors – duck, chicken, shrimp, pork, spinach, and pumpkin. We also serve traditional Chinese dishes, including Peking duck, shrimp with Asian basil, and crispy duck, served with jasmine rice and a classic coleslaw. You'll also find modern dishes such as the Bao Burger or Pork Tenderloin Tempura Flowers. Mao's specialty is matcha cheesecake and fried milk for dessert, which already has its loyal fans. Mao is also a Chinese cocktail bar, where, in addition to classic cocktails, you'll find a separate signature menu inspired by the Chinese zodiac signs, created by bar head Sebastian Piasecki. Their compositions are unique combinations of flavors, aromas, and colors, captivating all five senses, presented on a unique menu reminiscent of playing cards. For example, the Tiger cocktail, served in a young coconut, with rum infused with Matcha green tea, coconut, mango, jasmine, and a hint of coconut aroma.
Our menu features selected Chinese dishes, and we'll prepare many of your dream dishes for our daily three-course lunch. We'll provide friendly service and enhance your stay with atmospheric music.
